UPDATE ON DRESS-A-CHILD PROJECT
I paused momentarily from work yesterday to catch my breath. While at it, i decided to look through my phone, reply some messages, and, just maybe, binge a little on Facebook.
The first message that caught my eye when i swiped was from Joy.
Fourth year student of the department of Nursing Science, University of Calabar…. And… My girl
I had worked with Joy and her classmates through a major part of the last lap of their third year redefining their career goals, identifying strategies for excellence and renewing commitments to producing results.
She sent in a donation to dress two children on the project… And a message..
“…. Please ma, this is my little contribution to your service to humanity… You’ve touched so many lives and I want to support in my own shikini way
I made a promised that if I should pass my Council Exam, I will assist in my own little way and God Did It!!!
So please just manage it
Thank you very much for the great impact you’ve done….
In the picture inset, I posed for a quick selfie with God’s Favor, my mentee from the 2022 and 2023 cycles of the Leadership and Community Development Mentoring program.
Last Sunday, he showed up and said to me… …Ma’am, I’ve got a donation to DRESS-A-CHILD.. ..
Continuing, he said
… I’ve been thinking of an appropriate donation to make… And yesterday, I made a last minute decision to gift this Isi-Agu fabric to the project.
My heart is full of gratitude.
These two donations lend credence to the Theory of Social Learning and Modelling which affirms that CHILDREN LEARN BY WHAT THEY SEE.
According to this theory, children watch how you handle stress, how you treat other people, how you perform essential functions of everyday life, and they see how you manage your emotions.. . . And then they follow naturally in tow.
It’s been such a delight watching these young persons rising up to the challenge of giving back to their communities.
We’re still in the season of mobilizing resources for our project and we’re appealing to our friends from near and far to join us make this Christmas a memorable one for the children
Here’s how to be a part of the project
- Give us fabrics… Scraps of fabrics and/or whole fabrics… And watch what magic we will perform with them
- Give us sewing consumables. Spools of thread, sewing needles, scissors, biases, machine oil etc
- Give us ready-made boy and girl child dresses. We also accept neat, gently used dresses too
- Give us cash (if you can). This one, odikwa very important. We propose that it will cost us a minimum of N5, 000 to dress one child decently. You could help us dress one, two, fifteen, seventy or two hundred children… As the Lord gives you grace.
- Volunteer your time and efforts in the project. Join us to sew and or run little errands that will help us achieve success.
